One of our favorite places to visit is the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The views are so amazing that you don't know which way to look. We went there this past May and there was still snow up in the mountains. Let me know what is your fondest memory on the road.
My fondest memory on the road comes from stumbling across the "Blowing Rock" area of Boone, North Carolina. My significant other and I are bouldering addicts (a type of free-style rock climbing that you do not use ropes for) and were looking for a new place to climb. We found a blog on blowing rock and decided to take a chance and discovered a truly wonderful place. It is a quaint little town, like Havre de Grace, but the people were kinder, the place cleaner, beautiful moutain scenery and it was just littered with perfect boulders that were a ten-minute hike off the road, rather then the normal hour and a half hike through jungle terrain for us. We were ready to move on the spot and if it wasn't for family and careers then we would have. We continue to visit there and even stay at the same lodge, The Mountaineer Inn each time because they treated us so well (they even upgraded our room at no extra charge just for coming back). It is a beautiul scenic area and it is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway (which also has great climbing spots). If ever in the need for a nice adventure then check this place out. www.ncbouldering.com/
