If life were just grand all of the time then I would float happily through the day with one of those odd smiles

on my face that make people wonder what I've been doing.  Not to say I don't have that sort of smile on my

face or that I don't make people wonder what I've been doing, just that all is, of course, not grand with life.

The cat brought home 2 ticks. (At least, I hope there were only two.  That was how many I discovered and exactrated

before becoming too grossed out to continue.)  After send these two said ticks to swim with their ant-cestors, (Yes, we

had an ant problem over the summer and sent many of aforementioned creatures on ancestral visits in the septic tank.  Marvarlous thing that is.)

I went to our vet's office and spent over $100 on Frontline flea & tick killer.  (We also have dog, so I had to get product for both.)

Oddly enough, the cat quickly forgave the removal of both ticks and immediately begged a treat for his trouble. (Although my breakfast is still uneasily hovering over it.)  Yet, later in the day when I put the small blot of Frontline on his back, he immediately demanded to be let out and refused to return

until my son came home from school, whom he promptly begged comfort from while ignoring the evil mom (Yeah, that's me).  As evening fell my descent from grace persisted and I fear, considering that the cat has been years warming up to me to begin with, that I am permanently on his list for this.

Oh well.

Anyway, that done, I suppose I can get to the point.  Just finished reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series and loved it.  Although long, its a great read for anyone that enjoys romantic historical fiction.  Yet, it has a plus of a science fiction plot twist that is a vital part of the story.  I love science fiction and enjoy historical fiction so it was right up my alley.

She has a second series based on a character from the original Outlander series named Lord John.  Until this past August there was only one full length Lord John book, (I believe) and a number of short stories that appeared in collections.  Although I don't find the Lord John stories as enthralling, I enjoy the style and wit she endows to the Sherlock Holmes sort of character.  Lord John has a twist that he is in the English military during the mid 1700's and is also gay. (Although  the author says he is bisexual, it is clear from reading the stories  that he relations with the opposite sex only when appearances require it.)  A second Lord John came out in August and a third should arrive at our doors (the library that is) at any moment.

A little time consuming, but a great read nonetheless!
